How the development in E-bike connectors may suddenly be of interest for outdoor lighting

Higo was originally a manufacturer of E-bike connectors and is a market leader in Europe. Despite the fact that Higo connectors were developed with E-bike applications in mind, there are many areas of overlap between the requirements that exist for such connectors and those in the outdoor lighting market.

"Just as with E-bikes, space in the luminaires is often a critical point. This is why compact solutions are often recommended in this case. Watertightness is also an important factor. Just like E-bikes, luminaires are often found in outdoor environments that require a protection level of IP66/IP67," explains Maarten Voermans, owner of A&C Solutions.

NEW, COMPACT, WATERPROOF CONNECTOR DESIGNS

Higo recently expanded its range of signal connectors with 3 new, ultra-compact designs that also closely match the requirements for outdoor lighting applications. The most compact one is the 2-pole micro A connector with a diameter of just 4.8mm. To combine power and control, Higo also offers a 5-pole micro F connector of 6.5mm and a 6-pole micro D connector of just 6mm. All offer an IP67 protection level.

"The 6-pole micro D in particular is an example of how Higo's focus on R&D has given rise to novel solutions," Maarten continues. In order to achieve such a large number of poles within such a compact space, Higo tried a different approach for this design. It opted for a different type of connection in which male and female contacts were no longer separate, but in fact combined. Both connectors feature both 3 male and 3 female contacts. "With this, Higo achieved a first. The Z606D is therefore the most compact 6-pole connector on the market," concludes Maarten proudly.
